Met Gala 2023

Dear Beloved Readers,

Welcome to the first-ever Papillon Blog post.

I am excited to meet you during the most exciting time of the year, The Met Gala.

This year’s Met Gala was a tribute to the late Karl Lagerfeld. Lagerfeld entered the world of fashion in the 1950’s and worked for top luxury brands such as Balmain, Patou, Fendi, Chloe and of course Chanel. Lagerfeld is known to have revitalized Chanel.

Lagerfelds design style was quite unique in the sense that it ranged from chic/classic to bold/colorful to edgy/modern. He introduced stellar concepts to the realm of fashion design during his iconic career.

With that being said let’s take a dive into some of my favorite 2023 Met Gala looks-

Margot Robbie in Chanel

Margot Robbie is simply stunning to begin with but this dress first worn by Cindy Crawford as part of Chanel’s haute couture spring 1993 collection just absolutely made her glow. The silhouette complimented her so well and her simplistic makeup and jewelry allowed the dress to shine through.

Dua Lipa in Chanel

When I tell you I gasped at the sight of this dress. The silhouette and classy trim of this vintage Fall/Winter '92 Chanel couture bride dress are breathtaking. Dua Lipa looked like an absolute princess in this dress.

Liu Wen in Tory Burch

The tradition of the Chanel Camellias began in 1913 ; the appearance of these gorgeous flowers was consistent throughout the 2023 Met Gala but I have to say this dress worn by Liu Wen was my favorite incorporation of the camellia.

Adut Akech in Carolina Herrera

Inspired by Lagerfelds use of black and white and the incorporation of the bold contrast of colors, this dress was curated for Adut Akech to revive his designs. The pearl corset, incorporation of camellias and contrasting tulle is just genius. I am absolutely blown away by this garment.

Sean “Diddy” Combs in Sean John

This motorcycle tuxedo embroidered in black pearls and 600 Swarovski crystals was said to be an homage to Lagerfelds time with Chanel. I think this look is a perfect representation of Lagerfelds desired color palette and creations involving abstract shoulder designs.

Mindy Kaling in Jonathan Simkhai

This breathtaking dress was inspired by Lagerfelds 21st-century, modern day Chanel designs. The bustier and feather fringe are so flattering on Mindy. So exquisitely beautiful.

Conan Gray in Balmain

One of Lagerfelds personal accessories was a fan. The detailing on this look and accessory are entrancing and a fabulous portrayal of Lagerfelds eye for detail.

Tems in Robert Wun

Absolutely unreal! This stunning corset and headpiece worn by Tems blew the red carpet away. The abstract detailing yet with so much class is a garment myself and other fashion enthusiasts will remember forever.

Jeremy Pope in Balmain

Last but certainly not least. I have no words. This was the most iconic tribute to Lagerfeld that could have ever been made.

Thank you for reading my beloved fashion lovers.
